Politics Keeps Water Toxic Across Vojvodina

Residents of Zrenjanin, a town of some 123,000 people 80 kilometres north of the capital of Belgrade, are anticipating the approaching holiday season with mixed feelings. While most look forward to their summer recess, they also worry that the summer heat will worsen their problems with the water supply.

Experts warn that in many local communities across the province of Vojvodina, people are drinking water that is either downright toxic or unsuitable for consumption.

However, political rows are bedevilling the reconstruction of old water supplies and construction of new ones.
